STRESS and coping...

Have you ever heard about people who have bad habits to cope with stress? Like eating everything in sight or worrying themselves into a lather...

Well, yesterday I had to go to the dentist to have a final crown put on...ack!!! Shots and pain make me freak out! So, when I got home from the dreaded dental appointment I was so stressed...I needed a way to unwind. My way of coping is to hibernate in the sewing room, find the most colorful stack of fabric , cut it up and start sewing!

Now, I hear you saying, "That's not a bad habit!". Well, I beg to differ! I have a stack of UFOs that need to be worked on (don't we all). Remember the Jellie Bellies I started not too long ago? That is ready for the design wall? Oh, you get the picture.

Look at this beautiful stack of fat quarters. It's an oldie but goodie~Hanna Bella from Robyn Pandolph. I took out a stack of whites and greens for the borders. I'm going to make Don't Fence Me In by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.

Pressed each and every one. I can feel my jaws unclenching.

Started cutting strips and squares... my headache is going away.

I saved my selvages! I've almost forgotten why I was stressed in the first place.

Look how neat and pretty! I'm a happy camper!

Sewing, sewing , sewing! Boy, that is just what I needed! The tension in my neck and shoulders is disappearing.

Pinned the triangles to the sides. I used every pin! So, I cleaned all the fuzz and threads off my pincushion. I've got quite a few more to pin and sew. So, the stress relief continues tomorrow!

One more thing before I close up shop. Trimmed little triangles off the corners. What is this? That's my bowl of triangles! Don't you just want to wiggle your fingers around in there? This is my second container of little tiny triangles...I just love to look at them. (Another stress reliever.)

Now, off to bed. I won't be having nightmares tonight! I'll probably be dreaming of roses, polka dots, and paisleys. Bliss!

  1. Just the feel of the fabric starts that destressing. You've got a beauty in the works *s*

  2. Just love the FQ's. I think you and I must have the same love of fabric. After my brother died, I was so stressed, or distressed, not sure which...anyway for a week, every night, I just cut triangles. Gave everyone in my club a big stack of them when we were making a Thousand Pyramid quilt. It just made me feel so much better.

  4. Fabric and such will usually help me relax and destress. It's what the doctor orders. :-)

Recently I found that fat quarter bundle deep in the closet. I can't wait to see your quilt.

  5. Oh, you're such a little oddball momma. Or maybe I'm the oddball. As you are destressing with each cut and stitch I would be starting to stress. If I ever have a little jar of triangles someone should check me in to the hospital.

    LOVE YOU!

  6. I love the soft colors in that bundle of fat quarters. I'm also with you about stress falling away as I touch fabric. There's just something soothing about fabric. I've been known to go to the LQS and just walk around stroking fabric.
