A Finish and a UFO

I finished a quilt for a friend.

And put two borders on an old UFO.  One more set to go! This is Scrappy Garden  Path from the book Threads From The Thirties. The pattern called for one and a half inch squares but I had a lot of leftover two and a half inch squares from  an earlier project so I decided to use them. After I put the first border on the top was huge! Of course, I hadn't allowed for the difference in squares. I had to take two rows off the bottom so it would fit my bed. I guess that's what happens when something goes into the UFO pile.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

I came home from my retreat last month inspired and ready to finish some things up! I vowed to work on some UFOs.

This is a row robin from 2001! Five friends and I each did a row. When I got it out of the bag it was in pieces. I've been working all week to get it together. It always seems when so many different people work on something it takes a little effort to get everything to match up just right.  I had to add a little here and take away a little there. I have one more row to add before I add the borders. It sure feels good to get this in line for quilting...big stitch, I think.

I had a pile of scraps from a friend so I decided to use them up!

Tuffets from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. Now I need to back them, stuff them and embellish them!

Teri's Quilt

My friend Teri passed away before she could finish this quilt. She was making this for a very dear friend. My friend Ty and I have put the top together and then Ty will quilt it on her longarm. I know her friend will treasure this quilt.

 

And, there are those Tootie Girls! Looking a little worse for the wear after a day of playing!

My daughter has such a green thumb when it comes to roses. She picked these today and brought them into my room. They smell so good!

Road To St. Louis

Road To St. Louis, a great stashbuster. This is a quilt from an older book by Trudi Hughes. It uses 2 and 1/2" squares.

It's quilted in a Baptist Fan design.

I'm still piecing every night on the 1930's quilt. As soon as it takes shape I'll post a picture.

1930's Reproduction Reduction

Last week I wanted a new project that was a quickie. I always turn to my stash of Lori Smith patterns when this happens.

So, while I was digging around in my 1930's drawer I decided to start a really ambitious project. I'll show that to you later in the week. This is my drawer after cutting for the new quilt. Sorry, I don't have a before picture but it was overflowing with fabric and this is what's left! Love it because some of those fabrics were twenty years old.

And, don't you know pancakes and bananas taste better with a rooster hanging from your neck!

First Finish of 2010!

Well, really, I just had the binding to do. This little quilt is from a Lori Smith pattern called Fit To Frame: Set 6. It's called Grandmother's Garden. It is hand appliqued and hand quilted. Here are a few close ups:

What's this? It's my new stash reducer...I love blue, and I have the fabrics to prove it! This is Trick Or Treat from When The Cold Wind Blows by Blackbird Designs. There are 291 baskets! I plan on using a different fabric for each of the backgrounds and baskets. I'll bet I have that many different blues. But, if I don't I'm not afraid to buy more!

I've made a basket a day so far. That's my plan...one basket a day!

Sneak Peek

Just a little peek at what's to come! The first block of All Around The Town by Sue Garman. I decided to use fusible applique and buttonhole stitch on this block of the month from Houston St. Mercantile in Granbury, TX. I still need to pull the threads to the back and tie them off.

This is 10 of 20 blocks using my signature squares from the Y2K swap I did in 1999! I know...but better late than never. I think I have finally used up all the 2 1/2 inch squares with this quilt. I made my Y2K quilt and two others from that swap!
