WIP Wednesday

I woke up to snow this morning. I usually am a late sleeper ~ I don't do mornings too well. I got up before 7:00 this morning! I went to the back door and there was a beautiful blanket of snow covering everything.

I've been working on one of my blocks of the month ~ Home Sweet Home from Blackbird Designs. I am doing this through Houston St. Mercantile, a quilt shop in Granbury, TX. I love the fabrics they chose. I wanted to do this BOM on the machine since I have two applique quilts to hand quilt this year. I have tried using monofilament thread and a small zig-zag like Kim Dhiel does in her books. I think I would like it better buttonhole stitched with matching thread. Oh, no, that means I'll have to rip out the monofilament!

I hope you all have a wonderful WIP Wednesday full of quilting time!

  1. Hey! I found you! I finally got two 9-patch blocks together. Tonight we do the half-square triangles. What is BOM? I guess I'm going to have to learn quilt-bonics!

  2. I've done a bit with monofilament and really don't like it. I love what I've done with DMC machine embroidery thread and a very tiny, narrow buttonhole stitch. That's how I'm doing my machine appliqué from now on. It may be an awful chore ripping out the monofilament, but if you'll hate it later it's better to take care of it now.

  6. Could you buttonhole stitch over the monofilament thread?

  9. It's going to be a beauty. I really should learn how to applique with my machine. I always figure I can start stitching right away or fuss with the machine for an hour (or more *s*) and stitching right now always wins.

  10. I really hate monofilament and won't use it in my good machine. On the other hand, I really love the look of buttonhole applique. =) Matching or not. Those blocks you show look like beautiful fabrics.
