My Design Wall

One of my favorite bloggers asked to see our design walls. Oh, my! Well, I'm going to show you mine...please excuse the mess. First of all, to make the design wall I put six pieces of foam core on the wall and screwed them in. Then I covered it with white felt. It's huge! You can see I use my design wall in a different way. I put all my Block of the Months on there while I am working on them. I have a few in progress! Home Sweet Home, Birds of a Feather, Vintage Valentine and Pieceful Nights plus a very old set of blocks from an old Piecemaker's calendar and a UFO Piece of Cake BOM. Also, Santa's Midnight Runner and some string blocks I want to donate.

The quilt on the top of the design wall is called Worry Birds and I did it for a Black, Red and White challenge with a group of local quilters that are my very best quilting friends. I guess that would be BQFF in today's language!

Also, the Blue Star Banner my BQFF Teresa made for me when my son went into the Marines. I brought it upstairs to put it away when he came home but I just couldn't pack it in a drawer. So, I hung it on my design wall next to a little US flag that Robert carried with him everywhere he went in Iraq. I'm planning on making him a memory quilt with some Marine fabric I found and I want to put the banner and flag on the back.

My BQFF Tyrena says I have layers on my design wall. She's right! When I want to use the wall for its intended purpose (to preview block layouts) I just hang it on top of everything that is already on there. Of course with this much stuff on the wall the advantage of using no pins won't work for me. I just pin everything I put up on the wall. Because it would surely fall off if I didn't! I certainly wouldn't want that to happen!

Edit: The blogger who asked us to show our design walls was KC Quilter.

Monday - A New Quilt

I've been appliqueing and sewing home dec stuff lately. I really felt like piecing something. So, I started a new quilt. I looked through my bundles of fabric and found one that I could use. I picked out 2 Moda Magic Garden bundles (the prints and the plaids) by Blackbird Designs and a Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. pattern called Flies In The Barn. I cut it out on Saturday and started piecing it on Sunday. I went up to my quilt room this morning and pieced the three blocks that are in the body of the quilt. I can't believe how easy this is going to go together. Just some half square triangles and some bars!
